FY 2021 Wage Negotiations Have Started

Negotiations Have Begun: the FIGHT is ON!

Now is the time for us to make our voices heard! Last week, we had our second meeting to discuss wage negotiations for the upcoming year. Once again, the Hogan administration sent representatives offering limited ground rules despite ongoing Unfair Labor Practice charges. Winning a fair raise will require a lot more fighting than can happen at the negotiation table.

Retiree Prescription Drug Plan Update: No decisions without details!

On September 1, 2019, the Maryland Department of Budget and Management (DBM) issued a letter regarding retiree drug benefits provided by the State. It is clear from reading the letter-the Hogan administration is content with the mess it has created with regard to retiree drug coverage, and will do nothing more to provide the drug coverage promised and needed by retirees and employees eligible for retirement.

Correctional Officers & the Correctional Officer Bill of Rights

Beginning today, October 1st 2019, Maryland correctional officers who are members of AFSCME Council 3 should contact Kahn, Smith & Collins for representation under the Correctional Officer Bill of Rights (COBR). KSC will represent correctional officers at interviews and before hearing boards. They work to ensure officers are afforder their rights and receive fair treatment and just outcomes. 

Additional COLA Confirmed for January 2020

In Fall 2018, Governor Hogan started negotiations by trying to change the rules. Our members made a choice to refuse to compromise our right to: communicate freely with our members through social media and email and seek assistance from the General Assembly. We didn’t agree to these unfair negotiating conditions and instead members from every agency organized.

DBM Has No Solutions for Staffing Crisis in Annual Meeting with AFSCME Maryland

Last week, on August 29th, AFSCME Maryland members met with Department of Budget and Management Secretary David Brinkley for the Annual Meeeting regarding staffing levels outlined in our union contract. AFSCME Maryland was represented by President Patrick Moran, AFSCME Local 1427 President Dorian Johnson, AFSCME Local 539 President Jackie Caldwell and AFSCME Local 112 Shop Steward Monica Mayo.

Although many state employees will be on leave for this federal holiday, we send a special THANK YOU to our dedicated 24/7 employees working around the clock and through the holiday. On the first Monday in September, we take the day off to celebrate Labor Day and reflect on the American worker’s contributions to our country.
