Maryland's prison staffing analysis hits snag

An AFSCME spokesperson said the union and Corrections officials met twice and were scheduled to meet again for video training, "but the state canceled."

Kyle Shanholtz, union steward for Hagerstown Corrections Local 1172, said a planned "webinar" training was canceled in October and has not been rescheduled.

While both Corrections and the union say the state's prison system has a staffing shortage, they disagree on how severe it is.
