Join the Fight for ONE University System of Maryland Contract!

WELCOME TO OUR UNION

For years, our union fought for one contract for all University System of Maryland (USM) schools. But in the 2022 legislative session, we were successful in changing the law! Now we are preparing to negotiate one contract covering wages, benefits, and working conditions at every USM school.

AFSCME Maryland Council 3 is the largest and fastest-growing union in Maryland. Together, we represent over 6,000 higher education employees across 12 different campuses from the Eastern Shore to Frostburg, Maryland. We are a powerful voice to protect workers’ rights and our jobs, pay, benefits, working conditions, and public services.

OUR VOICES ARE STRONGER TOGETHER

Higher education workers in Maryland first gained the right to collectively bargain a union contract in 2001. At that time, the law was written to force each campus to negotiate a contract individually. Over the years, by organizing and working with our legislative allies, we fought to strengthen our right to collectively bargain by negotiating directly with the decision-makers at the University System of Maryland.

Learn more about why the old negotiating system was ineffective here.

Now, we have the unique opportunity to negotiate one contract covering every job classification on each campus. Let's stand together to ensure we can win the changes staff and students deserve to have a productive and safe campus community. Join your union today!
