Thursday, July 17th, 2019, leaders of AFSCME Local 112 met with Department of Human Services secretary, Lourdes Padilla, and her team for the Annual Staffing Meeting.  As outlined in our union contract, the Annual Staffing Meeting is intended to, give union members an opportunity to discuss staffing levels with management.

Hogan Administration Withholding Additional $7million in Correctional Officer Bonus Funding

As of July 3rd, Governor Hogan has stated he will withhold $245 million of funding that was “fenced off” in the state’s budget for various public programs including the $7 million intended for Officers. Governor Hogan is attempting to limit spending to the detriment of front-line staff who have been working in dangerously low staffing levels. As of now, this money is still being withheld but no other scheduled increases have been changed.

This week, the 3% Cost of Living Adjustment AFSCME members won and secured during the Legislative Session goes into effect. Congratulations! Thank you to every member who came to a rally, lobbied in Annapolis or called and wrote letters or emails to your elected officials. Your hard work is the reason we won this increase.

Union Night at Camden Yards 2019

Each year, the Metro Baltimore Council AFL-CIO hosts an annual Union Night at Camden Yards to bring unions together from across the State of Maryland. AFSCME Wins Expansion of Free Transit Access for Maryland State Employees

Yesterday, July 1st, 2019 HB 201/SB 319 passed into law. This bill requires that the Maryland Transit Administration provide FREE ridership services on transit vehicles to any permanent employee working for the State of Maryland.
