AFSCME Secretary-Treasurer Lee A. Saunders traveled to Wisconsin, meeting with fellow AFSCME members and spoke in Madison at the premier of a new film called We Are Wisconsin.

“This was a demonstration of people power that reverberated around the world and helped spark a movement from Wall Street to Oakland. You are an example of how to fight back, and a warning to tyrants everywhere" Saunders said.

Tens of thousands thronged Madison, WI recently to send a message to Governor Scott Walker and corporate-backed politicians: This is still what democracy looks like.

A year ago Walker and his cronies rammed through a bill all but eliminating collective bargaining rights for 200,00 public employees. Huge crowds at the Reclaim Wisconsin March proved the past year only sharpened the resolve of citizens to fight back.

More than 1 million people signed petitions to put Walker, his lieutenant governor and five lawmakers on a June 12 recall ballot.
