Employees have won a tentative agreement to reinstate our employee leave donation
program to non-exempt staff at the University of Maryland – Baltimore County.
UMBC employees working through our union, AFSCME Local 1459 proposed
enabling employees to donate earned sick leave to another co-worker.
We have reached a tentative agreement with management — as long
as employees maintain a minimum balance of 240 sick leave hours.
This will allow employees who choose to donate, to help coworkers
facing catastrophic illnesses that deplete all of their earned sick leave.
Employees will have to vote to ratify this and other contract wins later this year.
Non-exempt employees at UMBC had previously lost this right and have now won it back.
