AFSCME Statement on Indictment of 18 Correctional Officers

The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services announced
today the indictment of eighteen former and current correctional officers
that were potentially involved in a criminal smuggling ring at the Eastern
Correctional Institution.

As I pointed out to the press, our members perform a dangerous job
and want to work with honest people of the highest integrity. Period.

AFSCME members have no desire to work with anyone that will put
their lives in danger. We are all proud of the dangerous job that our
members do each day and we will continue to advocate for the honest
people doing the job that most do not have the courage to do each day.

In Solidarity,

Patrick Moran
President, AFSCME Maryland Council 3
